Arroyo

alberto_arroyo.jpgalberto_arroyo_2.jpgThe Spartanburg Phillies have a history of fielding quality teams, no matter which age division you are talking about. One of the bright young prospects on their 11U team is Alberto Arroyo. The "Big Cat", a 6th grader at Dawkins Middle in Spartanburg, contributes to his team's success from either the mound, behind the plate or from one of the corner infield positions. We cornered him recently for a little JrDP Q and A. You'll learn what he finds appealing to him about baseball and some of his favorite things to do off the field. All of this and more in the Junior Diamond Spotlight. To view, click here

Fuller

tyler_fuller.jpgThe Junior Diamond Spotlight stays in the Electric City for our next player. Recently, we have featured a few players that will eventually feed into the Hanna High program. It would only be fair to focus next on someone who will eventually attend cross town rival Westside High School. Tyler Fuller is a 6th grader at Lakeside Middle School in Anderson. "TyFu" wears the uniform of the 12U Alley Cats and was recently recognized for his onfield performance in our "Fall Stars" feature. You'll get to meet this versatile player up close and personal next in the Junior Diamond Spotlight. To view, click here.

Busby

tyler_busby_4.jpgThe Junior Diamond Spotlight moves back to the Electric City of Anderson for our next featured athlete. Tyler Busby has created quite a "buzz" around the travel ball circuit with his powerful bat, strong arm, versatility and on field competitiveness. The future Hanna High Yellow Jacket has been ranked among the top players in his age division by JrDP since the first opportunity we had to see him perform. We know how he responds to opposing pitcher's fastballs so we chose to fire our battery of questions at him recently to learn more about him. He'll let you know of his biggest accomplishment on the field, where he'd like to play in college and a whole lot more in the JrDP Spotlight. To view, click here.

Peterson

blake_peterson.jpgBlake Peterson competes on the gridiron as a linebacker at McCracken Junior High in Spartanburg. In fact, he was named all-conference and defensive player of the year for his performance during this past football season. Now, Peterson turns his attention to baseball where he is a standout P/3B/OF for Sparkle City and the Spartanburg High School program. He allowed us a little time recently for a Q and A as he prepares for the upcoming season. You'll meet this hard throwing right-hander next in the Junior Diamond Spotlight. To view, click here.

Cothran

augustus_cothran_5.jpgAugustus Cothran has established himself as one of the top power bats in the upstate for several years. Few opposing pitchers have had much luck in derailing the "A-Train", a left-hand hitting 1B/P for the Upstate Longhorns and Blue Ridge Middle School teams. He was recently ranked by JrDP as one of the top prospects in the 14U division of "Fall Stars". We had the opportunity for a conversation with Cothran recently. He'll share his thoughts on a variety of subjects in the Junior Diamond Spotlight. To view, click here

Thompson

nic_thompson_4.jpgOur next featured player in the JrDP Spotlight was a member of the Easley Little League team that participated in the 2009 Junior Baseball World Series in Taylors, Michigan. Nic Thompson is a veteran of the travel ball scene and looks to take his game to the varsity level at Easley High School very soon. We caught up with this toolsy middle infielder recently for a little sit down Q and A. Find out what he has to say on a number of subjects next in the Junior Diamond Prospects Spotlight. To view, click here.

USSSA

bulldog_baseball_10u.jpgWith two fall tournament victories under their belts including the recent November Jam in Easley, Bulldog Baseball (pictured left) from Greenville has vaulted into the top spot of the U.S.S.S.A. 10U AA rankings. To view all the rankings by age division, click here.

JrDP Quote of the Week: "I want everybody to feel he has a chance to get into a game when he comes to the ballpark. I play guys when I want to so they'll be ready when I have to. I don't consider myself a motivator of players. I think it's an insult to a ballplayer to have to be motivated." Gene Mauch

Fletcher Baseball discontinues operation: Scott Fletcher, president of Fletcher Baseball has taken a position with the Colorado Rockies organization. Through prayer and a great amount of consideration Scott has decided to discontinue the Fletcher Baseball program. He feels very strongly that it would be hard to maintain the quality and attention to detail experienced in past seasons without his daily participation. For more, click here.
