JrDP alums at 2015 Palmetto Games

dp palmetto gamesGraduates of Junior Diamond Prospects, established in 2007, are continuing to make their mark in the SC high school ranks. How do we know? Well, we went back and did the research for the fifth year in a row and found history on our site of quite a contingent of players that have been named to the six rosters of Diamond Prospects premier event for 2015, the "Palmetto Games", to be held this coming weekend, August 8-9, in Columbia at the home of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks.

We at Junior Diamond Prospects weren't sure how this year's list would compare to the numbers for the 2014 event, when we had over 80 players listed, or to those of two, three, four years ago. But, we think even this year's final results were certainly comparable. We have uncovered quite a large group so far during this site's existence, a list this year that includes numerous commitments to colleges already, many at the D1 level. We knew who they were before they became names in newspapers and other publications that cover high school and college baseball. We'll miss on our share too but how's this list for an eye for talent?

Aaron Adams River Bluff Aaron Adams, 2B - If you looked at Adams physical size, you would question what he is doing hitting in the power spots in the order for one of the premier teams from South Carolina. Sawyer Bridges Summerville Sawyer Bridges, RHP - Bridges pitched a heck of a game for the Wave. It was one bad inning for the crafty righty that saddled him with the loss. Despite a bad fourth inning, Bridges showed he had some effective stuff. His fastball was not over powering but had good tail that cut back into righties. His fastball clocked in at...for more, click here.
Colton Byars Gaffney Colt Byars, C - Byars (pictured right) at the very least was co-offensive player of the game (along with Merck). He and Merck combined to drive in four of the Devils eight runs. Swinging from the left side, he laced two ringing doubles, one to each gap. Ringing may not be the perfect descriptive, but our intention is to denote a distinctively different sound when he makes contact. And you don't lose much...for more, click here.

Dallas Callahan Byrnes Dallas Callahan, OF - Callahan (pictured right) has teetered on greatness in JrDP's previous viewings of him. Our jury was still out on him as a really, consistent power hitter. But the more we see of him, the more we are convinced that this is one of the best hitters in his age group. He reached base and scored twice in this one. His first hit was a fortunate roller down the third base line that hit the bag. He did things with his feet naturally that it is hard or impossible to teach to kids as they get older. Calev Grubbs White Knoll Calev Grubbs, RHP/CF - Grubbs (pictured right) had an outing on the hill that he probably wants to quickly forget about, going 2 1/3 innings and allowing seven of the eight Astro runs. He relied primarily on a 66-67 MPH fastball (topped out at 68 MPH). Threw an offspeed pitch in the mid-50's but often left it up in the zone and paid the price for those mistakes. Blake Holliday Belton-Honea Path Blake Holliday, 3B/RHP - It isn't everyday that a pitcher throws a one-hitter and comes away with a loss.
